Personal health and breast cancer treatment is an important issue.  In America, there are approximately 180,000 new cases of breast cancer each year in the United States year.  Except for skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common cancer among women.  This form of cancer causes more fatalities among women 40 to 55 years of age than any other cancer.  This is why diagnosis is extremely important.  Over 77% of women are not diagnosed with breast cancer before the age of 50.  At this stage, breast cancer may not be as curable as with earlier detection.  Although 97% of women diagnosed with breast cancer survive five years, up from about 70% in the 1940's, misdiagnosis or failure to diagnose may have severe consequences.  Please get tested for breast cancer, or learn how to test yourself.

Members of the American Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons performed almost 43,000 reconstruction surgeries were performed in 1990.  In 1981, 20,000 reconstruction surgeries were performed.  This is an increase of approximately 115%, the reasons for which are largely cosmetic in nature, however, there are many reconstruction surgeries which arise after cancer-related mastectomies.

The incidence of breast cancer in North America and Western Europe
is 6 to 10 times higher than in Japan and most parts of Asia and Africa.

Breast cancer is a difficult and expensive disease to treat.  It is frightening in its effect and it does not discriminate among those effected.  All socio-economic groups suffer from breast cancer, though not in proportion.  In reality, Caucasian women suffer more than African-American women, and poorer women are afflicted more than wealthier women.  Our firm is aware of these factors and concerns, as well as the problems that can arise when a loved on is stricken with breast cancer.  We also are aware of the complications associated with breast reconstruction surgery, or breast implant surgery.  The overriding goal of Vernon J. Petri and Associates is to provide its clients with information regarding breast cancer, advice when helpful, and litigation experience when needed.  We want to help you as much as possible, and make you as comfortable as possible during this difficult experience.

1 in 8 U.S. women are at risk of developing breast cancer.
